About the Role

Are you ready to step into a role that makes a real impact while building your stakeholder engagement skills? Baw Baw Shire Council is seeking a Risk and Insurance Advisor to play an important part in supporting and strengthening the Council’s risk and insurance portfolio.
For existing risk and insurance practitioners, it’s an opportunity to make a difference, strengthen your risk and insurance expertise, and see first hand how a Council’s risk and insurance portfolio directly supports both the organisation and the community. You’ll be at the centre of decision-making that keeps Council and community safe, compliant, and effective.
You will develop essential leadership skills with the ability to work across teams to foster a strong risk culture and provide practical risk and insurance advice, building strong relationships across the organisation and with external partners.

Flexible and Hybrid opportunities are available. 

As Risk and Insurance Advisor, you will:
•    Coordinate and manage Council’s Strategic and Operational risk registers in consultation with the Manager Governance, Executive Team and Risk Management Committee.
•    Oversee Insurance claims and liaise with insurers and legal advisors.
•    Oversee the operation of the Internal Audit Program.
•    Overseeing Council’s Business Continuity Program.
•    Attend and present at Audit and Risk Committee meetings and other forums as required.
•    Work across teams to foster a strong risk culture and provide practical risk and insurance advice.

About the Successful Candidate

We are looking for someone who:
•    Builds strong relationships across the organisation and with external partners.
•    Can encourage cooperation and deliver outcomes with a variety of stakeholders.
•    Communicates complex information clearly, both in writing and verbally.
•    Has strong technology skills and an understanding of the political environment.
•    Brings knowledge of the risks impacting Local Government and experience with insurance claims (highly regarded).
•    Shows curiosity, enthusiasm, and the confidence to jump in and learn.
