Who are we

The Internal Audit and Inspectors-General Support team at DAFF is responsible for the provision of independent, objective and risk-based internal audit, assurance and advisory services, and provides secretariat support to the DAFF Audit and Risk Committee and independent support to the Inspector-General of Biosecurity and the Inspector-General of Animal Welfare and Live Animal Exports.

As an Internal Auditor, you will use your auditing expertise to:

    • Support the delivery of the annual internal audit program by conducting internal audits in accordance with professional auditing standards and internal frameworks.
    • Prepare high quality audit reports that clearly communicate issues, root causes, risks, and recommendations for improvement.
    • Build and maintain strong working relationships across the department.
    • Be adaptive and involved in all aspects of the work undertaken by the internal audit function.

The successful candidates require the following skills and capabilities:

    • Demonstrated knowledge of internal auditing standards, risk frameworks, and governance principles.
    • Demonstrated ability to conduct internal audit engagements within a complex organisation.
    • Demonstrated skills in written and oral communication, consultation and negotiation.
    • Demonstrated research and critical thinking skills and the ability to develop innovative, sensitive and practical solutions.
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and contribute to a continuous learning culture.
    • Integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to ethical conduct.

Eligibility requirements for this role:

    • At least 2 years’ experience in an internal or external audit role.
    • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline
    • While not mandatory, a qualification or accreditation with a professional auditing or accounting body would be highly regarded (e.g. CIA, CPA, CA, ISACA).
    • Applicants must be Australian citizens, and successful applicants would be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 security clearance
