Victoria Park Play & Learn is a warm, owner operated Early Learning Centre with a strong focus on children’s wellbeing, nutrition and care. We are seeking a passionate and reliable Centre Cook to join our team in our fully equipped state of the art commercial kitchen.
This role is perfect for someone who enjoys cooking wholesome meals, understands the importance of nutrition for young children, and takes pride in maintaining the highest standards of food safety, hygiene and presentation.
About the Role
You will be responsible for preparing and presenting nutritious meals and snacks for children each day, ensuring food is appealing, culturally inclusive, and supportive of children’s developmental and dietary needs by following our seasonal menu packs.
You will work closely with the Centre Manager, educators and families to ensure our menu reflects feedback, nutritional balance and budget requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and present food for children
Present food in a way that encourages children to try new foods
Provide variety in colour, texture and taste
Be flexible in adjusting the menu to meet children’s needs while maintaining a balanced diet
Health and Hygiene
Follow Food Safe and safe food handling requirements
Maintain strict hygiene practices in all food preparation
Ensure compliance with Centre policies, Government Regulations and Health Legislation
Health, Safety and Legal Responsibilities
Complete all Food Safety Program requirements and checklists
Address any safety concerns immediately
Follow Play & Learn policies for personal hygiene and safe work practices
Maintain professionalism, confidentiality and act as an advocate for children’s wellbeing
Selection Criteria
Essential
Recognised Certificate in Health, Hygiene and Nutrition*
Valid Food Safety Supervisor Certificate
HLTAID012 – Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting
Current Working with Children Card*
Understanding of special dietary needs and cultural considerations
Strong communication skills with families and staff
Ability to work effectively in a team
Desirable
Experience preparing meals for large groups
Knowledge of menu planning and evaluation processes
