About the Practice
We are a busy specialist medical practice committed to delivering high-quality patient care in a professional and supportive environment. Our team values efficiency, compassion, and excellent communication, and we are seeking an experienced Specialist Medical Secretary to join our practice.
The Role
This role is central to the smooth running of the practice. You will provide high-level administrative and secretarial support to the specialist and assist in coordinating patient care.
Key Responsibilities
Managing specialist appointment schedules and patient bookings
Handling patient enquiries via phone, email, and in person
Preparing, typing, and formatting medical correspondence and reports
Processing referrals and coordinating patient records
Managing billing, invoicing, and Medicare/private health fund claims
Maintaining accurate patient files and electronic medical records
Liaising with hospitals, other specialists, and allied health professionals
Supporting day-to-day practice administration
Essential Skills & Experience
Previous experience as a medical secretary, preferably in a specialist practice
Excellent medical typing and dictation skills
Strong knowledge of medical terminology
Experience with practice management software and electronic medical records
High attention to detail and strong organisational skills
Professional communication and interpersonal abilities
Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
Desirable
Experience with Medicare billing and health fund claims
Experience in a specialist consulting environment
Familiarity with hospital admission procedures
Experience with Genie
