About the ATO

The ATO manages Australia’s tax and super systems to help build a better Australia by funding services and infrastructure such as schools and hospitals. Our graduates are empowered to think big, turn ideas into action and work together to deliver results that matter, like:

making it easier for people to manage their tax and super helping businesses understand and meet their tax responsibilities (like lodging returns and paying the right amount) delivering ATO services that are simple, clear and easy to use.

What we offer opportunities to explore different careers with job rotations across various business areas, roles and projects career growth and progression a competitive salary of $75,431 plus 15.4% super, with a pay rise to $84,028, plus 15.4% super, after completing the program work-life balance with flexible work options, including hybrid work-from-home arrangements, generous leave entitlements and wellbeing initiatives tailored support, training and mentorship offices located across Australia, including most states and territories and some regional areas.

What you’ll do

Calculate your career success As part of one of the leading tax administration agencies in the world, you’ll work on cases to resolve taxpayer matters and prioritise compliance. Working alongside accounting professionals, you’ll gain unparalleled industry experience as you conduct audits, investigate financial data and engage with taxpayers, agents and businesses.

With a qualification in finance, accounting, commerce, economics or business, the Taxation & Law stream could be the formula for your career growth. You could:

provide expertise on policy, procedures, legislation, and frameworks to resolve complex issues conduct and support taxpayer engagement activities, including early engagements, verifications, risk reviews, audits, and advice on taxpayer obligations liaise professionally with taxpayers or intermediaries on sensitive issues to influence outcomes, obtain information, and provide advice through various channels review and research business processes to recommend and implement more efficient outcomes contribute to projects, strategies, and initiatives that support and deliver assurance conduct quality assurance activities and develop strategies to address findings within established guidelines.
